Costa Mesa Community Run!  The Fun Starts Tonight!

The event, which supports Costa Mesa public schools, begins at 5 p.m. Friday, April 22, with an expo featuring live music by Orange County blues/dance band Blue Daddy, $1 food, an Easter egg hunt, rides and more.

Saturday | April 23, 2011 | Costa Mesa

The 4th annual Costa Mesa Community Run brings together community and school for a 2K fun run and a 5K run through Fairview Park, beginning and ending with a lap in Jim Scott Stadium at Estancia High School.

The well-marked USTFA-sanctioned 5K course winds through Fairview Park, which offers rolling hills, ocean views and cool breezes. All entrants will receive a T-shirt and a goodie bag. 2K entrants will also receive a medal.

The overall male and female winners of the 5K will each be awarded a $250 gift card from IKEA.

• 6:30 a.m.: Registration opens
• 7 a.m.: Health and community fair and pancake breakfast begins
• 7:30 am: Aerobic warm-up
• 8 a.m.: 5K start
• 9 a.m.: 2K fun run start / award ceremony
• 10 a.m.: Nature walk

Bib numbers, T-shirts and goodie bags will be available for pick up from 3-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Road Runner Sports (1835 Newport Boulevard) or Friday, April 22, at the expo.

Licensed drivers 18 or older will have the opportunity to test drive the 100% electric Nissan LEAF during the expo and run. Nissan, sponsor of Team RadioShack and official vehicle of the 2011 Amgen Tour of California, is giving cycling, endurance and performance sport enthusiasts the chance to to test drive the “no tailpipe, zero emissions” electric car. Stop by and enter for a chance to pace the race during Stage 7 of the Tour of California.

March Home Sales Report For Orange County California Real Estate and A Income Tax Update!   March Sales    According to the MLS there were a total of 2312 Close Sales in the month of March. That is up from the February total of 1696, but down from the March 2010 total of closed sales of 2845. Remember that these are the closed sales reported in the MLS and may not include all home sales.    Of the closed sales in March 2011 24.4% were Short Sales and 19.6% were REO sales. In February, 29.5% of the closed sales were Short Sales and 20% were REOs. In March of 2010, 23% of the closed sales were Short Sales and 12.65% were REOs.    Current Inventory   The current inventory of active listings in Orange County is almost 11,000. Of those, a bit more than 29% are Short Sales and only 6% REOs.   Pending Sales   Of the pending sales in the MLS for Orange County, which includes listings reported as pending or taking backup offers, 55% are Short Sales and 10.5% are REOs. Compare the percentage of Short Sales pending versus the percentage of Short Sales closed. Is that difference because only half of Short Sales close, or because they just take so darned long to close? Probably both.   Income Taxes Not Due Until April 18th   Due to a legal holiday in the District of Columbia, Emancipation Day, on Friday, April 15th, the deadline to file Federal Income taxes is delayed until Monday April 18th. Apparently, if there is a legal holiday in DC, the Federal Government is required by law to treat it as if it were a Federal holiday.   California has conformed to the Federal deadline, meaning California tax returns are also due by the 18th instead of the 15th this year.   Ask about our programs:   Low as 10% down! When the “Costa Mesa: A Great Place To Shop!” promotion was first created in October 1994, sales tax revenue collected by Costa Mesa businesses funded nearly 36% of the City’s budget. The size of this contribution by business that pays for city services was significant enough for the Chamber to encourage all residents to frequent Costa Mesa businesses whenever possible rather than make their purchases in other cities. The reasons: shopping Costa Mesa helps to fund police and fire services; street maintenance and upgrades; parks and recreational programs; and, for that matter, all services provided by the City. It is even more important today to realize the contribution of the retail sales tax to Costa Mesa’s budget. Recent year’s data indicates that the sales tax contribution to the City’s budget has grown to nearly 44%. Additionally, local businesses provide much needed jobs and give back to the community by supporting local organizations.

Shopping at home in Costa Mesa is not a burden. The quality and variety of retailers, restaurants, hotels and services are everything that one could desire. With this in mind the continuation of “Costa Mesa: A Great Place To Shop!” makes a lot of sense – both to encourage patronage of all city businesses and to highlight the contribution of all our businesses to the well being of Costa Mesa. Costa Mesa May Now Not Get Any Revenue From The Sale Of The Fairgrounds!

The information below was just released to me via the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce! I hope this is not true!

Proposed Sale by State of CA

The Governor’s office is supposed to decide by next week whether to accept either one of several new bids, the City of Costa Mesa’s previous bid, or continue to do nothing.

If one of the newest bids is accepted, the City will not likely be a participant in any direct revenue stream from the operation of that property. The best that the City can do is restrict the type of development.

If you wish to express your opinion to the Governor’s office that the OC Fairgrounds

·        should be considered as a priceless part of Orange County’s and Costa Mesa’s heritage;

·        will not derive a fair purchase price during this economy;

·        should not be sold to private interests; but

·        remain public domain

express your opinion directly to the Governor by either calling 916-445-2841 or faxing to 916-558-3160 by Monday, October 18^th. To increase your voice in this matter, you might wish to forward this to your friends, neighbors or others who share your viewpoint.
